Anxiety Issues

Anxiety is a form of worry that can be excessive, generalized, hard to control, and even immobilizing. The fear experienced from anxiety is usually out of proportion to the actual event or circumstance and can manifest itself through multiple physical symptoms.

Depression

Feelings of sadness, worthlessness, anger, hopelessness, loss of interest in activities, trouble sleeping, change in appetite, and suicidal thoughts are some of the signs of depression. A complete physical examination is recommended to determine any possible medical causes.

Marital/Couple Communication

Sometimes couples can fall ‘out of synch’ and improving communication skills helps to flush out issues and get them back on the same page. When unresolved issues from the past are brought into a marriage, old reactive ways of coping can get in the way of intimacy.

Identity and Self Worth

Each of us is born unique with God-given value that cannot be taken away. However, because of childhood trauma, traumatic experiences in adulthood, loss, or difficulties adjusting to a new life stage, a person may lose a sense of who they are.

Anger

Anger is a normal, God-given emotion that arises in response to injustice and difficulty. Anger becomes a problem when it is used habitually as a coping mechanism to avoid other feelings of hurt, embarrassment, shame, or fear.

Grief and Loss

Whether you experienced the loss of a loved one or a loss such as divorce, employment, or a relationship, the painful feelings can seem overwhelming. Grief is a normal response to these situations.

Christian Counseling

The Word of God states that “you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free”. (John 8:32). As a Christian counselor I rely on the power of Jesus and the Holy Spirit to do what man cannot do in and of him/herself.

Abuse (Verbal, Sexual & Physical)

Sometimes abuse occurs in childhood, other times abuse can occur in the context of a toxic relationship. If experienced for a length of time, this type of treatment

Church Hurt

Many Christians have been hurt in some way by members or leaders of a church. Depending on the depth and frequency of the hurt, it can make a person cynical and untrusting of Christians generally, and of the church specifically.

Sex/Gender Identity Therapy

I offer a safe space to process hurts and tensions that concern questions of faith, sexuality and gender.

Adult survivors of Childhood Abuse (sexual, physical, neglect)

Many times, abuse occurs in childhood when the child is helpless to change things or to help themselves. Oftentimes, the child is abused by the very people that should keep them safe- their parents or caretakers.

Stress Management

Sometimes stress can feel overwhelming. Daily responsibilities can be difficult to manage on top of other anxieties and concerns or when something upsetting comes out of left field.

Cult and Occult Recovery

If you have been part of a cult, it can be very difficult to find your balance after leaving it. Although you know the reasons you left, and that things were wrong, it’s hard to leave behind some of the thought processes you learned there.

Toxic Relationships

Toxic relationships destroy a person’s self-worth and even their sense of who they are as more and more of them are sacrificed to trying to manage the relationship.

Dysfunctional Family Issues

Families always seek balance and one of the ways that they can do this is for family members to step into certain dysfunctional family “roles” to try to maintain and fix the family and avoid their own painful or stressful emotions.

Trauma

Trauma is an emotional response to a terrible event like an accident, rape, or natural disaster. Longer term reactions include unpredictable emotions, flashbacks, strained relationships, and sometimes physical symptoms like headaches or nausea.

Co-Dependency

Co-dependency originally came out of the Alcoholics Anonymous movement, identifying the unhealthy relationship between the addict and the addict’s significant others.
